Follow the Build of a Rare 1967 GT Mustang Convertible!
Drake Automotive Group is excited to be restoring a rare 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible S code 390 GT. One of our employees, Jerry Choate, long time restorer and former owner of a restoration shop is building this Mustang for Drake Automotive Group. This GT is a really rare find as it comes with complete documentation including build sheet, maintenance documents, original bill of sale, and warranty cards. Since the car came from South Carolina the mileage has been documented at a 156,000 original miles due to annual inspection receipts.
This Mustang is a factory big block 390 4 speed with a 9 inch trac lock differential. Very high option car. The only option not included was air conditioning, tilt steering, and power steering. It’s unusual that someone would purchase a big block car without power steering but Jerry was able to find the original owner and contacted him. One of his questions was why with so many options; did you not get power steering? His answer was that he was 19 when he bought the car; he was cool and didn’t need power steering.
Some of the options include GT equipment group, S code big block, 4 speed, tach, deluxe interior, AM/FM radio, convenience group, exterior décor group, power top, styled steel wheels, power disc brakes, center console, deluxe steering wheel, and many others.
On March 8th, the Mustang went to Carl at Plastic Media Stripping in Las Vegas to get sand blasted. Jerry spent a lot of time taking the car a part and documenting all the special markings and paint daubs so it can be replicated on assembly. On March 16th the Mustang went to body and paint with Anthony and Wes at All American Rod & Custom in Henderson, NV.
Current plans are to debut the fully restored GT at the 2012 SEMA Show. Stay connected and follow the build at http://facebook.com/ScottDrakeFans
